A NATURAL TRANSFORMATION
The terraces serve a dual purpose—they harness the natural slope of the land, preventing soil erosion, and create optimal conditions for grape cultivation. It's like nature and agriculture working hand in hand, sculpting the land for the perfect sip of wine.
Walking through these vineyards is almost like watching a work of art. The grapevines seem to fall down the hillsides. The sunlight and the earth composition, together with the clean air create an immersive experience, engaging all your senses.
The extraordinary discovery of fifteen hectares of dry stone walls involved us with enthusiasm and a strong sense of respect for the place and for the efforts of the past inhabitants of the Borgo.
After years of work to recover and renovate the terraces, we planted our first plot of Sangiovese. The vines used for our new plants come from a mass selections of ancient vines discovered during the restoration works. Our ambition is to conserve the genetic heritage of the vineyards that have already been present in the Borgo and preserve the uniqueness of the wines produced in this magical place.
Our Grape Variety
The Sangiovese grape, a true Italian gem, is like the heart and soul of many renowned Tuscan wines. This grape variety is known for its vibrant personality and ability to capture the essence of the region's terroir.
-
The Sangiovese grape clusters are compact and cylindrical, with medium-sized, round berries that take on shades ranging from deep purple to a brilliant ruby red when fully ripe. The skins are thick, contributing to the wine's rich color and tannic structure.
-
Imagine the heady scent of ripe red cherries, intertwined with notes of violet and a hint of earthiness. Sangiovese often carries a tantalizing fragrance that reflects the sun-drenched landscapes where it thrives.
-
The flavor profile is a delightful interplay of tart red fruit, like cherries and cranberries, balanced by a touch of acidity. There's an herbal quality too—think of dried herbs like thyme or oregano, adding complexity to the taste.
